More than 400 people gathered in the modern intelligent building "Centre of innovation of virtual studies" of the University of Cartagena on the occasion of "the day world of the free Software", which was made possible thanks to the support and organization of the network of the information technologies and knowledge (network ICT).
The contest joined a farm community that begins to be part of the growing movement of free Software, which increasingly is more presence to support events that allow to create a community of collective and free knowledge around the new information and communication technologies.
THE PROGRAM
The event was organized in four sections on four floors of the new building.
Throughout the day developed the agenda scheduled without any problems and with events, conferences and workshops that were developed simultaneously.
On the first floor was the Game Fest where organized championships and friendly matches around famosos video games developed entirely on Free Software. "Open Arena", "Urban Terror" and "Frest On Fire" were the games star of the event.
Approximately 85 computers were available throughout the day for the "gamers" of Cartagena rid their digital contests.
On the next floor was available laboratory facility that received all the users wishing to migrate to free operating systems.
Ubuntu, Centos and Linux Mint were some of the distributions available for installation. In addition to installing the Linux system, the advisers were willing to provide a complete training on how to use and leverage the distribution that the user chose.
On the third floor were workshops simultaneously on Robotics, and practical applications on Android and community networks (Caribbean Mesh). The majority of students were all day walking each section of the event.
On the top floor available for the event organizers installed the section of conferences where guests specialized and expert on the topic of computer and technology in free Software delivered academic lectures on different topics.
HIGHLIGHTS
One of the most striking workshops was the "free Hardware Arduino workshop" taught by Diego Alejandro Gómez López, who has designed a small vehicle robot using Free Software tools such as Arduino and Android.
The small toy was remotely controlled from a mobile phone with Android operating system by an application.
Diego Alejandro is student of Mechatronics Engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar tells how he has used the technologies applied in this project which for the is a hobby.
Another outstanding Conference was dictated by Jeisson Baldovino for all digital entrepreneurs who would like to set up your business online, as it is the Conference on content management systems for Online shops by the "Drop Shipping" strategy.
BALANCE
The event was a success and all attendees were satisfied by having access to this type of event technology.
"I think excellent that performed this type of event in the city so that we continue instructing us on free software," said Alexander Silvero, one of those attending the event.
The organizers of the world day of free Software were also unhappy with the reception that this event took.

For its part, the director of the Stalin Chapuel ICT network pointed out that they are prepared to continue to support such initiatives to consolidate a farm community around the information technologies and communication.
